Our Story
For more than 50 years, JPMS has been a trusted advocate for physicians and patients throughout Jefferson Parish.
A Legacy of Leadership and Service -
Founded in 1959 by 35 Jefferson Parish physicians, the Jefferson Parish Medical Society (JPMS) was established to provide a strong, unified voice for physicians and patients in Louisiana's medical community. Today, JPMS has grown to more than 300 members representing every specialty and practice setting throughout Jefferson Parish.
JPMS is dedicated to advancing medical science, improving healthcare delivery, supporting physician education, and advocating for both physicians and patients. The organization serves as a valuable resource for physicians, provides educational opportunities, and works closely with organizations such as the Louisiana State Medical Society and the American Medical Association on issues impacting healthcare across the state.
Throughout its history, JPMS has championed important public health initiatives, including water fluoridation, the K.O. polio immunization drive, smoking prevention efforts, and post-Hurricane Katrina physician recovery initiatives. Through its charitable arm, the Jefferson Physician's Foundation, JPMS also supports community programs focused on education, food security, substance abuse prevention, and mental health awareness.
For more than six decades, JPMS has remained committed to strengthening the medical profession and improving the health of the communities we serve.
